TRACK TESTED
EBC Pad and Rotor Upgrades for Track BikesK3 Chris OnwilerPage 4
continued... A few weeks after the installation and initial street test, we gave our new EBC rotors and pads a good thrashing at the Sportbike Track Time season opener, held at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Illinois. On course, these brakes performed brilliantly, allowing us to dive almost suicidally deep into corners before we applied them. A slow bike with outstanding brakes can be great fun. Riders of faster machines whip past, sit up, brake, then watch in amazement as you nip back past them and steal the corner. Do this to the same rider several times in a single lap and you’ll be sure to have made a new friend…
Chances are good that we’ll never again punish our Racebike Rescue Fizzer as hard as we did when she was an endurance racing machine. Still, it’s damn nice to know that the potential is there if we ever again get the itch to ride our ex-racer like we did back in her glory days. Even at a street pace, the sharper brakes and crisper handling provided by these components are welcome improvements and at the track, they’re simply amazing. We’re confident in saying that no FZR ever left the Yamaha factory with brakes as good as these. At this point, you could definitely say that we’ve installed 200 mph brakes on a 120 mph motorcycle. Overkill? Absolutely. Hey, when it comes to brakes, that’s just the way we like it.
